This substance may be harmful if swallowed or inhaled, may cause eye irritation and may cause skin irritation.
Glycerin attracts moisture from the air into the top layer of skin, and it will continue to draw moisture to the deeper layers of the skin. It is derived from plants. It keeps your skin soft, supple, and hydrated. Canada has found that Glycerin can be contaminated with diethylene glycol (DEG), which is a poison the FDA has received fatal DEG poisoning reports about. The FDA has published guidance for manufacturer’s to test that they are not using contaminated glycerin, but there’s no way to assure that the tests were properly done. Diethylene glycol (DEG), the most common adulterant, has a number of properties similar to glycerol and is roughly three times cheaper. There are no known side effects of glycerin when used as an ingredient in skincare products; however, it may cause an allergic reaction if used in high concentrations
